Augusta GA Presents the 2nd Annual Westobou Festival

September 17th to the 26th ! Each day and evening of the Westobou Festival will be filled with a variety of presentations designed to dazzle visitors and showcase Augusta’s wealth of artistic talent. Whether your passion is contemporary theatrical performances or traditional symphony events, strolling through gallery exhibitions or listening to jazz, you’ll find it all, and more at the 2009 Westobou Festival.Westobou Festival

Highlights of the 2009 Festival include concerts featuring The Avett Brothers, Keb’ Mo’ and Patricia Barber - presented by the Westobou Festival. Other highlights include the 29th Annual Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival presented by the Greater Augusta Arts Council, Video Games Live presented by the Symphony Orchestra Augusta, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage presented by The Morris Museum of Art and the Greater Augusta Arts Council within the Southern Soul and Song Series, Elisabeth von Trapp in Concert presented by The Riverwalk Series, Inc., Steel Magnolias presented by The Augusta Players, Sitka Trio and The Blind Boys of Alabama presented by Augusta State University, Langston Hughes’ Ask Your Mama: Twelve Moods of Jazz featuring the Ron McCurdy Quartet presented by the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, American Ballet Theatre II presented by ,, Inc . . . and so much more! For ticket information Click Here.

Why is it called the Westobou Festival? Between 1660 and 1680, the Westo Indians lived in an area between Augusta, GA, and North Augusta, SC, along the banks of the Westobou River. Today, that river is known as the Savannah River. The river was a valuable resource to the Westo Indians and remains an integral part of the Augusta Region, serving as the catalyst to stimulate an economic and cultural impact on the entire area. It is fitting that the Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County selected the name Westobou Festival in promoting their vision to advance excellence in the arts and celebrate Augusta's wealth of artistic talent.

I still haven't decided exactly who and what I am going to see ...but you can bet you'll see me there!
